Rory McIlroy won the final tournament from the
2015 European tour calendar and it's not a surprise that he became European
golfer number 1. McIlroy, who is the best European golfer in the last few
seasons won the season ending DP World Tour Championship Dubai
with score of 21 under par, 1 shot ahead of Andy Sullivan.
Branden Grace finished solo 3rd at 15 under par. Grace was one of the players,
who had the chance to win the Race to Dubai, but he needed a win
at Jumeirah Golf Estates. A big group of players finished at 13 under
and Danny Willett was one of these players. He was second in Race to Dubai
before the start of the tournament and a win would secure him the top spot in
this prestigious competition. McIlroy wins the Race to Dubai for third
time in his career (2012, 2014 & 2015) and the win at DP World
Tour Championship Dubai was his second in the tournament, the first came in
2012.
Alfred Dunhill Links Championsh starts next week, which will give the start of the 2016 European tour season. The tournament is going to be held on the legendary Leopard Creek golf course and the home favourites Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel are expected to take a part in it.
With no doubts the golf event of the week was in Dubai, but with his performance in the Australian Masters Peter Senior managed to turn the focus a little bit on east. Senior, who is 56 years old and ranked 1694 in the world showed some class and won the tournament, which he has won twice in the past (1991 & 1995) . His win is even more impressive considering the strong field he faced, including the world number 12 Adam Scott, Richard Green, John Senden, Brett Rumford, Nicolas Colsaerts and many others.
The 2015 season was last for one of the most emblematic figures of the European tour - the official tour started Ivor Robson. Robson's career started in Carnoustie in 1975 and since then he has been part of The Open and the European tour.
