Captain Bjørn should be the happiest man in
golf this Monday. This year Open de France held at the Ryder Cup course was
great success, the course was in superb condition, it provided great test for
the players, the crowd was awesome and two of the European golf stars - Alex
Noren and Francesco Molinari recorded two very impressive wins.
Alex Noren |
Noren won his second Rolex Series title and his
10th European Tour title after posting a final round of 67 and 7
under total for the tournament. This is Noren’s first win for the season, but
thanks to his steady performance on the European and the PGA
Tour from today the Swede is number 14th in the official world golf ranking. Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, two of the European stars who are trying to make the European Ryder Cup team also showed some skills and finished T5 and T8 respectively. Rahm was leading the tournament before to send his tee shot on the 12th in the fescue after he was disturbed by a camera man and finish the hole with a triple bogey. Garcia needed a birdie on the last to force a play-off but he found the bunker from the tee, played for the green from there, but his approach was short and found the water. Eventually Garcia made a double bogey 6 and posted a final round of 3 over.

Noren,
Garcia, Rahm and Chris Wood’s (finished T2) performance shows that Le Golf
National is going to be a magnificent venue for this year Ryder Cup team Europe
should not be considered for underdogs in the event as many of the experts
claim. Moreover world number 2 Justin Thomas (USA) also played this week in
France, but he was not in contention indeed and finished T8.
Francesco Molinari |
Meanwhile
Francesco Molinari’s fine form continues and he won the Quicken Loans National
by 8 strokes. This was Molinari’s first PGA win and second for the season after
the Italian won the BMW PGA Championship from the European Tour schedule.
Thanks to
this week wins both Noren and Francesco Molinari jumped in the European Ryder
Cup standings and it will be a big surprise if we don’t see both of them in
France in September.
